Power of Play in Rochester: JUMBOJenga at Forager Brewery

Minnesota Children’s Museum Rochester is advocating for and raising awareness about the value of learning through immersive and hands on experiences, in particular learning through play. We all learn through experiences but what exactly are we learning?

We identified seven proficiencies that youth need to thrive and continue a passion for lifelong learning. But why just limit it to youth? Adults need continuously learning as well!

On June 17, the museum in Rochester will give adults the opportunity to explore the Power of Play by playing JUMBOJenga at Forager Brewery.

“JUMBOJenga is the first of many Pop-up Play events,” says Heidi Mestad, the Museum’s Director in Rochester. “It’s really just the start of our effort to align the Museum’s work more closely with the growing needs of our community.”

“We know that our community is looking to be happier, healthier and more innovative; we can play a key role through the Power of Play,” says Mestad. “We know that our region is challenged to provide a skilled and healthy 21st century workforce. We also know that the experiential learning of play provides those skills and prepares our kids for success.”

The seven Powers of Play identified by Minnesota Children’s Museum are crucial to the growth and development of youth and adults. These are identified as:

  • Creative Thinking
  • Critical Thinking
  • (Self)-Control
  • Confidence
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Coordination

JUMBOJenga will take place at Forager Brewing Company on June 17, 2016, from 6 to 9 p.m. Whether you’ve never played JUMBOJenga before, or if you’ve got some JUMBOJenga chops to show off, this adult-only event is for you. Come play and learn, while supporting a great organization that serves and invests in our youth and families in the Rochester area. It’s time to #PlayMoreMN.

JUMBOJenga games will be $10 per player. Play as an individual or as a team of two. All proceeds directly benefit the Museum to fuel the Power of Play!

A great partner, Forager Brewery & Restaurant, will be providing their food and service, in addition to a special drink for those who come to PLAY! Live music from singer-songwriter Jillian Rae will begin at 8 p.m.

JUMBOJenga is sponsored by Clements Subaru, ABC 6 News, Bowman Tool & Machinery, Custom Alarm, Forager Brewing Company, Kraus Anderson Construction, Merchant’s Bank, Nuss Truck & Equipment, Rochester Area Builders, and Widseth, Smith, Nolting.
